Dyslexia Support
Does my child need Dyslexia Support?  Reading is perhaps one of the essential skills of life. However, for many children learning to read is a difficult experience and one fraught with confusion, anxiety and distress for both the child and the parent.  Whether your child has a formal diagnosis of dyslexia or they have not yet been seen by a dyslexia assessor, our dyslexia support can help.

We use a multi-sensory approach to tutoring reading and spelling with a comprehensive phonics programme designed to target the gaps in your child’s reading abilities.  Sometimes this requires us to go back to basics with revision of letter sounds and CVC (consonant – vowel – consonant) words. Our initial assessment will allow us to find out exactly where to start.  Through this targeted programme and practise of skills at home,  our aim is to give your child the tools they need to become a more confident reader and to make them more comfortable in the classroom.

Our lead learning support teacher, Clare Rimmer has trained with the BDA (British Dyslexia Association) and our programmes are tailored to the specific needs of your child.

If your child is a struggling reader our advice is to get help as soon as possible. Reading is the key to success in all subject areas. Early intervention is vital to make sure your child is comfortable in their studies going forward

Testimonals

‘My daughter, Megan, was struggling at school and as full time working parents, we found it difficult to have the time needed to spend on tutoring her. I saw an advert for On Target on Facebook and enquired about Megan attending and we haven’t looked back since. Megan has been attending On Target for a number of years now and we can see how she has grown in confidence and progressed in all aspects of her learning. Her teacher, Clare, has spent so much time teaching Megan different strategies and techniques to help her understand and learn and it’s amazing to see how confident she has become in her ability, compared to a few years ago. Thank you, you do an amazing job!’

‘My son, Joshua, has been attending On Target Tuition since the end of Primary 2. He is now in Primary 6 and I have witnessed a massive improvement in his confidence and his school work. Joshua has always shown extreme dyslexic traits in his maths and literacy. He was placed on the special needs register in Primary 2 and by the time he was in Primary 4, he was at stage three on the special needs register. Clare Rimmer from On Target has been working with Joshua one to one over these past few years, and Joshua has gone from being an introverted boy who hated school, to a confident young boy who enjoys school and has become a lot more independent with his homework. Joshua has progressed from being two and a half years behind in his reading and is now at the level he should be at. My husband and I are so thankful and delighted at the progress he has made. His teachers have witnessed the incredible progress that Joshua has made and Joshua is no longer on the special needs register. All the credit goes to Clare Rimmer and all the team at On Target Tuition.’

"My son Lewis started attending tuition in July 2012 at the age of 11. As he has slight dyslexia I wanted to try and help him build his confidence and abilities in Maths and English before he started secondary school. Martin has helped Lewis so much with understanding and managing both subjects. He now has the confidence he lacked and this can be seen through his school work as he came first in his class in his English exam."
